Can Escape Rooms Lock You In

How Long Are You Given in an Escape Room?

Escape rooms are such a great way to spend time with friends, family or even colleagues.

You’ll challenge yourself by working together to find clues and solve them.

Enjoy the conundrum and see what you can discover.

Where Did Escape Rooms Come From?

The first escape room as we know them was opened in Kyoto, Japan in 2007 by a publishing company called SCRAP. 5-6 players were put in themed rooms where they had to solve puzzles and riddles by searching for clues to escape within a time limit.

Escape rooms have since become hugely popular all over the world and more than 50,000 can be found in over 60 countries. There are more than 1500 in the UK alone!

 Why are Escape Rooms so Popular?

There are so many reasons to love escape rooms! Whether you’ve come to do an escape room as a corporate icebreaker or just with a couple of friends, you are sure to have a great time.

Maybe you like looking for clues.

Maybe you’re good with riddles or puzzles.

Maybe you are particularly observant and will spot what others do not.

Whatever your skills and talents there is fun to be found in escape rooms.

Are Escape Rooms Difficult?

Escape rooms can be quite tricky sometimes. Where one person may breeze through one escape room another may find it too hard. You should not, however, worry about this. There are many different types of escape rooms. They often range in difficulty. Some will be designed for younger children and therefore will be much easier whereas other designed for adults provide more of a challenge.

How Hard are Our Escape Eooms?

We have three escape rooms for you to attempt. Two of our rooms run at a medium level of difficulty and the third is more tricky.

Our medium-level rooms include;

  1. Haunted Hollow

Ten years ago, Mr Hollowhill vanished without a trace, leaving only his ramshackle house behind. Though his disappearance was suspicious, the case eventually went cold.

  1. Cyberwarfare

The cyborg world has taken over from humans! Created by humans, the cyborg have gained self-awareness and spread into millions of computer servers across the world!

Our third more difficult room is;

  1. Sherlock´s Secret

In a city that breathes uncertainty, a gloom lures over 221B Baker St as Sherlock Holmes has been abducted by the very killer he was chasing. What possibly could have happened? To find Mr Holmes we are recruiting only the best detectives in the city to solve the mystery and find Mr Holmes before it’s too late. The odds are against you and time is running out, can you find Mr Holmes in time?

Are Escape Rooms Scary?

Escape rooms come in an absolutely huge variety of shapes and sizes. There are definitely some haunted and frighteningly themed escape rooms out there but they are not the only option.

Horror-themed escape rooms centred around killers, clowns and ghosts can be a lot of fun if you like a fright but they are definitely not for everyone.

Other escape rooms are much more family-friendly with themes more geared towards children like magic, fantasy and classic treasure hunts.

Some escape rooms have age limits on, often you must either be a certain age, usually around 10 years old, or be accompanied by a participating adult. There are escape rooms with puzzles designed for younger children of 7 or 8 and even some rooms where you must be at least 16 to participate.

Overall the immense variety of escape rooms means there is definitely one out there for you to enjoy.

Are Our Escape Rooms Scary?

If you like that element of terror, then here at Escape Now we recommend our Haunted Hollow adventure. If this is not your thing, our Sherlock’s Secret and Cyberwarfare adventures are just as exciting only without the fear factor.

How Long Are You Given in the Escape Room?

Escape room times can vary depending on the target audience. If you go to a family-friendly escape room that is more directed at children, it is likely to be shorter than the ones made for adults.

In all of our rooms at Escape Now you are given an hour in which to escape. If you do not solve all your clues and get out in this time you will be trapped inside forever…

What Happens if You Get Stuck Inside?

First off, do not worry! You are never actually trapped at any point. If you need to you can contact the staff, who are watching you on CCTV, at any point. If there is any type of emergency the staff will, of course, bring you out of the room and do what they can to help you.

You should know though that if you leave the room at any time during the game play you will not be let back in. So go to the toilet BEFORE you start.

What Should You Bring With You to an Escape Room?

You do not need to bring much to an escape room to have a good time. All you need is you and some top-of-the-line teammates to help you escape the room.

You obviously cannot bring your phone into the escape room, they may provide you with lockers in which to store your phone and the rest of your things. If not they will have somewhere to keep your things safe.

What Percentage of People Actually Escape?

Most Escape Rooms have a success rate of about 30%. This means that most people do not get to escape the room. Although this is quite frustrating it does mean that it is that extra bit more satisfying if you are one of the 30%.

Most escape rooms try to keep their escape rate as low as they can so as to keep them as interesting and exciting as possible. It would be no good if you easily solved a 60-minute escape room in half an hour.

If you are not fortunate to escape don’t worry you won’t actually be left trapped inside the escape room indefinitely. Instead, a member of staff will come in a show you what you missed and explain to you how you could have escaped.

Tips to Make Sure You Are Not Trapped Forever

We want you to enjoy our escape rooms and have every chance of actually getting out so here are a couple of tips to think about before you go in;

  1. Listen to each other.
  2. Help one another (if you’ve been staring at the same puzzle for a while and are not getting very far let someone else have a try).
  3. Keep things organised. (If you have matched a key to a lock don’t take it out and you won’t forget where it fits).
  4. Look at, in and under everything (divided and conquer, you’ll cover more ground much faster this way).
  5. Ask for hints (the staff might be able to help you out a bit if you ask nicely enough).
  6. Watch out for red herrings!
