If you have mobility issues you might be wondering if can you sit down. Preparing for an escape room

So, how do you prepare your mind for an escape room?

Choosing a room

Choosing an escape room is one of the most important factors to prepare yourself for an escape room. If this is your first time, it’s best to choose a room with a theme or story that you’re familiar with and a low difficulty rating. But, if you want to dive straight in, go for something tricky.

Choose your room then familiarise yourself with the theme fully. Consider what props might be in the room, and what clues or riddles you’re likely to come across so your mind is ready for what’s to come. For example, if you have chosen a science-themed room, expect to see beakers, vials and coloured liquids to play around with. You might have to solve equations or look through scientific books and notes.

Plan a strategy with your team

One of the best things you can do to prepare your mind is to talk to your team and have a strategy. For example, when you first walk into the room it’s a good idea to split up and each player takes a section of the room to look for possible clues. Don’t leave any stone unturned and make sure you look at every detail from the pictures on the wall to the books on the shelf.

You might be wondering if 2 people can beat an escape room or what the ideal number of people is for an escape room. Most rooms require 2-6 people. You don’t want to do an escape room on your room and more than 6 will be too crowded. But the answer is yes, you can do an escape room with 2 people. It isn’t so much about how many people you have but more about how well those people work together.

Plan your route

This step is often overlooked. If you can’t find your way to the escape room you have chosen or if you’re late because you didn’t plan your route or leave early enough, this will set you off on the wrong foot and you’re likely to turn up feeling quite stressed.

Plan what time you’re going to leave, allowing plenty of time to get there early and make sure all of your team arrive early too. It’s best to know how to get there beforehand and check public transport routes.

Turn up well rested

You have to be sharp to beat an escape room so the best thing you can do to prepare your mind the night before is making sure you get enough sleep. Remember that escape rooms are challenging so you need yourself and your team to be at your best to give you the best chance to beating the room.

Eat before you go

Some groups decide to do the escape room first and eat later but eating improves brain cognition so you might want to consider going out for some food before you enter the escape room so your mind and your body is loaded with nutrition and you aren’t spending the whole hour thinking about what you’re going to order.

Dress comfortably

Many groups go to escape rooms for a celebration such as a birthday and turn up dressed in their best. However, whilst escape rooms aren’t physically too strenuous, you might need to look underneath or above furniture, carry props and objects and you could be on your feet for a whole hour so it’s best to dress comfortably.
