Can You Take Your Phone in an Escape Room?

Can You Take Your Phone in an Escape Room?

Escape rooms are unique attractions that are increasingly popping up in all corners of the world.

Globally, the escape room industry is expected to grow to a whopping $7 billion by the year 2028, which demonstrates the immense popularity of the indoor activity.

Let’s face it, what other group activity asks you to invoke your imagination, solve consecutive riddles, and use your logic and powers of observation, all in one hour?

If you are a first-time visitor, you may be curious about escape room etiquette. For instance, you may be wondering, can you take your phone in an escape room?

In this article, we will outline the answers to a few commonly asked questions about escape rooms, which we hope you find informative.

Can you take your phone in an escape room?

So, can you take your phone in an escape room?

Nope! Mobile phones are not allowed in the game rooms.

The staff at the escape room may ask you to store your mobile phone (as well as your coat and bag) in a locker while you are playing your game. But if lockers are not available in the facility, then you may be asked to turn your phone off instead.

It would be pointless to use Google anyway, because the puzzles in an escape room have been uniquely and intricately designed to suit a unique theme or storyline. So you won’t find the answers if you start searching for clues on the web!

If you need to take a phone call during your game, you can leave the room. However, you may not be allowed back into the game, so you will have to wait outside for your team to finish.

Can you ask for clues during an escape room game?

For the entirety of your game, you will be watched on CCTV by the staff at the escape room. You may be able to ask for hints from the game master, who will arrive to point you in the right direction.

However, none of the staff members are going to reveal the answers to every puzzle. You can’t escape the room in your time slot (usually 60 minutes), you will lose the game.

Are escape rooms hard?

The difficulty level will vary, depending on the escape room.

The average failure rate for escape rooms is about 70%, which means only 30% of teams will successfully solve the escape room.

If escape rooms were too easy, then the players would solve all the riddles very quickly and get bored. You would regret paying for an experience and travelling all the way to the escape room if your experience was boring!

You don’t have to be a maths genius in order to crack all the codes and complete all the puzzles. To solve your way out of the escape room, you and your players will need to use skills such as:

  • concentration
  • problem-solving
  • communication
  • teamwork
  • awareness of your surroundings
  • memory
  • organisational skills
  • time management
  • ability to work under pressure
  • patience

Can you drink during an escape room?

Escape rooms do not allow you to bring any food or drink with you into the game room.

Alcohol is completely banned from escape room premises.

At Escape Now, we do not allow players to consume alcohol at any point when they are on our premises, especially inside the escape room.

Alcohol is prohibited for the safety of our guests, so any players who are visibly intoxicated or carrying alcohol with them will not be admitted into our game rooms.

If we spot any alcohol being consumed while guests are on our premises, we will stop the game and ask the players to leave. Your team may not receive a refund if you have booked a game beforehand.

We would strongly advise against drinking alcohol before arriving at our escape room. We urge our guests to play the game fully sober, so you can use your brain power and intellectual skills to the maximum!

What if you need the toilet in an escape room?

You are allowed to take a toilet break during your game. Simply inform the game master that you wish to visit the bathroom, and they will let you out of the room.

However, do so at your own risk, because you may not be allowed back into the game room. You will have to wait for your team members to carry on with the game, without you.

Are doors locked in escape rooms?

No, the door is never physically locked at escape rooms, in the interests of health and safety.

The scene will be set for the players to imagine they are trapped in the room, because there will be an assortment of puzzles, props, characters and graphics to distract them!

You will always be able to exit the room if you need to whether you need a toilet break, if you don’t want to play any more, or if you need to leave in an emergency.
